I wandered around Sunnyside, Queens for about an hour by the train tracks. I was waiting to pick up Katherine so that we could go to the drive-in movie theater in Poughkeepsie that evening. This was two days before my car had been towed. We were going to see "Cop Out" and the "Nightmare on Elm street" remake. I assure you both of these films were bad. But, it doesnt really matter in my opinion what you are seeing, its really the experience that is regularly enjoyable. The greasy fries and cheeseburgers, drinking in the car, and checking out the locals. I even found a small bag of weed in my jacket pocket, enough for one joint.

When we arrived, we were an hour early before they open the gates. A man slowly rides around a lawn mower, trimming the large field with red, white, and blue poles sticking out everywhere. This is the same man who eventually sells us our tickets. The sun slowly set behind the large white screen set in the rear of the field, the sky was blue with pink clouds. A woman and her dog were playing catch, a mourning dove plays out its stereotype on the telephone wire overhead. It's quiet except for the faint sound of the mower, the dove, and the gravel under our feet. The woman comes over, "What are you doing?" she asks. "We are waiting for the movie.", I reply. The woman tells me that her friend committed suicide just yesterday by taking a whole bottle of pills, otherwise he would have had to go back to jail. I say i'm sorry to hear it, she is eager to share this type of information with two perfect strangers. Her dog writhes and growls as it tries to pull the frisbee out of the woman's hand. She stands there unaffected. Her floppy hat hangs over her mirrored sunglasses. I tell her she should come back and see the movie, it might distract her, and cheer her up. She says she might come back, "I might come back, I may come back, I could use a good comedy." It suddenly gets colder, and I button my jacket.
